CEC EPQ Students Impress Visitors with Colourful Presentation Evening

Visitors to Cowes Enterprise College were in for a treat on Thursday 3rd February as year 13 students presenting their EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) projects produced an incredible range of eye-catching and inspiring displays, many accompanied by themed nibbles and home-baked snacks.

The presentations included an impressive range of memorable creations; such as a plant-watering robot built by Hans, a documentary filmed and edited by Toby, an interactive computer program made by Nate, concept art created by Sonny and an amphibious house designed and modelled by Emily.

Other students analysed and presented their projects in equally fascinating ways; as visitors were able to look through Mackenzie’s fast fashion selection, discuss Maths with Thomas, discuss economic policy with Sanjay, consider young people’s mental health with Hannah, try out exercises with Mia and debate welfare cuts with Sneha – dressed as a judge in cloak and wig!

The legal theme was continued by Beth who impressed everyone with her insightful analysis of the argument for life sentences for young criminals. Her home-baked muffins were just as captivating as her argument; as were the cupcakes produced by Clara, who produced a colourful display on intersectionality theory applied to literary texts.

Rachael and Willow both made complex medical research accessible to visitors with their interactive presentations and George made boat hulls fascinating through his passionate and detailed presentation to visitors. All in all, we were very impressed!

Sara Cody, EPQ coordinator said:

‘The EPQ is a fantastic opportunity for students to prepare for university style assignments that gives students the chance to research anything they like’

The Head of Sixth Form, David Sanchez-Brown, explained the importance of the qualification.

‘The EPQ is an inspiring course that enables students to extend themselves and reach areas of interest beyond their usual studies, often enabling them to achieve better University offers and opportunities. At Cowes, we provide a comprehensive programme, supported by experts from Southampton University, to allow students to excel in their projects.’
