Girls Football Reports: 6-a-side Tournaments

Over the last two weeks, Cowes Enterprise College has been organising and hosting the annual IOWSFA 6-a-side tournaments for girls in years 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Cowes were able to enter both A and B teams into each of these tournaments (despite the under 13 girls’ squad being somewhat depleted by the day the tournament came around): a credit to the number of girl footballers we currently have in the academy!

The year 7 and 8s were up first – the 8s in the A team tournament and the 7s in the B tournament. Both teams performed well.

The B team lost 1-5 against Ryde; narrowly lost 1-2 against The Bay; and finished with a 4-1 win against Medina. this placed them a creditable 3rd overall.

In the A team tournament, our girls lost their opening game to the tournament winners Christ The King 0-3; then won against The Bay 1-0; narrowly lost to Ryde 0-1; then, finally, were just not able to score against Medina, drawing 0-0. As the runners up slot was being closely contested by Cowes, Ryde and The Bay at this time, this unfortunately left them in 4th overall instead of taking the runners up position. However, nothing should be taken from their superb performance throughout.

Team for the Under 13s:

  • A – Rosie, Gabby, Kara, Lola L, Emily and Olivia.
  • B – Cora, Lola M, Lilly, Jemima, Maisie, Poppy and Aimee.

The reverse situation occurred in the under 15 tournaments, with Cowes able to field 17 players for the two teams. Because of this, the girls were able to help create a 4th team in the B section (as Ryde had been hit by COVID last minute and were unable to enter a full team).

In the B tournament, Cowes narrowly lost 0-1 to a last minute goal by The Bay; drew 1-1 against Carisbrooke; and finally managed to put 8 goals past the amalagamated team. Because of their strong goal difference, this put them in 2nd place overall.

In the A tournament, Cowes won all of their games (1-0 against The Bay; 3-1 against Carisbrooke; 1-0 against Ryde) except the last (which had to be cut short due to time running out (traffic delaying the start time) which was a 0-0 draw with Medina. Being undefeated, they were rewarded with the tournament winners trophy.

An excellent performance by all involved!

Under 15s Team:

  • A – Tawnie, Emelyne, Erin, Emily, Lottie, Julia, Maisie and Jess
  •  B – Evie, Katherine, Isobel, Dani, Amy, Holly, Cassidy, Kyra and Kiera.
