FAQs

If you have any questions you may not be alone. Here are some frequently asked questions we get about joining sixth form

That depends on the number of A-levels you study (3 or 4), and if you do an EPQ.

Each subject has 4 taught lessons a week and there is a lesson a week for Cowes Charter.

Outside those, you plan your own study timetable with our assistance and support. 10 hours are allocated to each subject, which includes 4 hours of direct teaching, 2 hours preparation time and 4 hours of self-directed post-learning study.

A-levels are hard work and being independent after GSCE study takes a bit of adjustment. We understand this and are here to help you, with lots of guidance and support on managing your workload and getting into positive study habits from the very beginning.

If you need additional help, your academic mentor will be there to support you, in addition to extra guided study sessions and peer mentor support.

The majority of students study three subjects, which is the standard number required for universities, whilst some choose to study four as an additional option.

A popular alternative encouraged by universities is to add an EPQ for extra enrichment and UCAS points whilst keeping your studies flexible.

Our student-led sixth form allows students to choose and run their own extracurricular choices, currently ranging from Model UN and debating to sports clubs, wellbeing and even D&D.

Our active student leadership team is in charge and you can be part of that!

When you register with us you make some provisional choices, but we want you to do the A-levels that are right for you, so the first half term of your time here is spent trying out different subjects.

You can sign up to several courses to see what is right for you. After the first half term, your courses are finalised.

Our sixth form team provides focused 1:1 personalised support as well as taught sessions to prepare you for your application. This includes support from your mentor and our highly experienced UCAS team. Every student is supported closely with their personal statement, choices and application.

We also run specialised sessions for medicine, law and Oxbridge applications.

The Extended Project is a research-based qualification that prepares you for university and comes with UCAS tariff points and often a reduced offer. It allows you to pick your own subject that reflects your interests or future career choice.

Our excellent EPQ results allow you to show your true abilities at their highest level and prepare fully for a university environment.
