PE

Our KS3 and KS4 Core PE curriculum aims to inspire learners to lead healthy, active lives and develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.

From year 7 throughout their time at CEC until the end of year 11, learners will take part in a broad range of sports and physical activities, such as: Netball, Football, Pickleball, Badminton, Trampolining and Athletics.

The aim of the curriculum is to build competence, confidence, and resilience, whilst teaching key skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership, and tactical awareness, along with knowledge of the body.

We also teach our learners about the importance of fitness, wellbeing, and healthy lifestyle choices. Through competitive and cooperative activities, we aim for all learners to develop respect, fairness, and a strong sense of sportsmanship.

Our intent is for learns to leave KS3 with the physical literacy, motivation, and understanding needed to stay active and healthy throughout their lives whilst remaining enthusiastic for further study in KS4, which aims to strengthen their regard for sport and physical activity whilst reinforcing the importance of a health active lifestyle.

Alongside this, at KS4 we offer learners the chance to study the Peason Edexcel GCSE (1-9) in physical education in order to gain a more formal qualification if they choose to.

Our KS4 PE curriculum is designed to prepare pupils for success in Physical Education GCSE using the Pearson Edexcel exam board.

Building on a strong foundation of knowledge from the KS3 Core PE curriculum, the content studied is aimed at developing the learner’s knowledge and understanding of how a healthy, active lifestyle contributes to the growth and development of body systems and structures (including the cardiovascular, muscular, respiratory and skeletal systems), as well as general wellbeing.

Alongside this they will look to develop and apply their knowledge, understanding and quality of performances in practical assessments, while engaging with key issues and themes relating to contemporary global influences on physical education and sport.

The KS4 Core PE curriculum is also designed to support the learning of GCSE PE students, giving further opportunity to revisit and re-enforce key content and themes.

As well as leaving KS4 with a strong qualification in GCSE PE, our intent is that this curriculum sets pupils up with the skills that will allow them to pursue a future in many related careers.
