Modern Foreign Languages

Our languages curriculum has been developed to reflect the world students live in, using contexts familiar to them in their everyday lives and teaching them the vocabulary that they need to communicate with young people on topics that interest and stimulate them.

Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)

We place great value on cultural understanding. Pupils explore the traditions, daily life, and diversity of countries where the language is spoken, recognising the importance of languages in a global society. Our intent is for pupils to leave KS3 with the enthusiasm and confidence to continue language learning, and with the skills to connect with people beyond their own community.

French

Our KS3 French curriculum aims to develop confident, curious, and culturally aware linguists. We want pupils to communicate with increasing accuracy and spontaneity in French, building strong foundations in vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Pupils learn to understand and produce language across the four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Spanish

Our KS3 Spanish curriculum aims to develop confident, curious, and culturally aware linguists. We want pupils to communicate with increasing accuracy and spontaneity in Spanish, building strong foundations in vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Pupils learn to understand and produce language across the four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)

French

Our KS4 French curriculum is designed to prepare pupils for success in French GCSE using the Pearson Edexcel exam board.

Building on strong foundations from KS3, pupils will learn to communicate effectively in French through reading, writing, speaking and listening, with a focus on thematic contexts which are relevant to their current and future needs, and they will learn to appreciate the cultures of countries where the language is spoken.

As well as leaving KS4 with a strong qualification in GCSE French, our intent is that this curriculum sets pupils up with the skills that will allow them to pursue a future in many related careers, and to feel a stronger part of the global community.
