Students Showcase Creativity

This half term we have been delighted to see some exceptional work and creativity from our students across all year groups.

As part of our Maritime Futures curriculum, students in year 7 designed and made maritime-themed keyrings. They created their designs in 2D Design and then cut and engraved acrylic using the laser engraver.

Year 7 students have also produced some spectacular works of art for their homework projects, using recycled materials to create miniature rooms, fairytale towers, lighthouses and historic buildings.

In design technology there has been some amazing work from our year 8 students. They have designed, vac-form moulded, prepared and poured, selected scents and packed handmade soaps.

They also made some beautiful, colourful mechanical toys and maritime-inspired fabric sea creatures!

Year 9 students in Mr Green’s DT/ICT class programmed micro:bits to control a robot. Students independently explored and developed their programming skills using the powerful micro:bit programmable computer.

Students in year 9 also developed a superb range of board games, which they then competed with each other.

Year 12 Food Science and Nutrition students produced some wonderful food products including a spinach and cream cheese roulade and a chocolate and butter cream Swiss roll which were delicious and beautifully presented!

We also saw some stunning work in extra-curricular activities.

Students who are part of Cowes’ Combined Cadet Force made some lovely recycled bottle poppies and painted rocks for our Remembrance Garden.

We have seen some delicious, innovative and inventive cookery creations from our students taking part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. From a wide range of cooked breakfasts, pancakes, burgers and rice dishes such as jambalaya, risotto and biryani. We also saw some desserts made on the camping stoves including cakes, poached pears and even a chocolate fondue!

We have been so impressed with the hard work of all of our students this half term and are very excited to see what the Spring term will bring.
