On Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th May, Cowes Enterprise College proudly took part in the Isle of Wight Schools Athletics Track & Field Championships, held at The Bay in Sandown. Across two fantastic days of sport, over 65 of our students from Years 7–10 represented the school with enthusiasm, dedication, and true team spirit.
Our Year 7 and 8 students competed on Wednesday, taking part in a wide range of events including sprints, long-distance races, throws, jumps, and relays. For many, this was their first time competing in these events – but whether they were in their preferred disciplines or stepping in to support the team, every student gave it their all. The encouragement and support they showed each other throughout the day was a real highlight, and created a brilliant atmosphere on and off the track.
On Thursday, our Year 9 and 10 students took to the field. With slightly smaller numbers, several students stepped up to compete in extra events to help gain valuable points for the team – showing great flexibility and commitment. From fast-paced sprints to long-distance endurance, from powerful throws to tactical relays, our students demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and resilience.
Across both days, we saw some truly impressive individual performances, with a number of students earning podium places and the potential opportunity to compete in the next round within Hampshire. Regardless of results, every student was a credit to themselves and to Cowes Enterprise College, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.
A huge thank you goes to our brilliant Sixth Form Sports Captains: Caitlyn D, Evie C, Skyler B, Isobel M, Hope W, Herc L-F, Denis L and Toby T. Their support with logistics and team organisation played a key role in making the two days run smoothly, and they were fantastic role models for our younger students.
Thank you also to The Bay for hosting the event, and to the amazing volunteers from the Isle of Wight Athletics Club who supported our field events alongside staff members. And finally, well done to our hardworking PE team for all the preparation, coaching, scoring and organisation across both days.
