Cowes Enterprise College Achieves Platinum School Games Mark
Cowes Enterprise College is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious School Games Platinum Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year, becoming the first secondary school on the Isle of Wight to achieve this outstanding recognition.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, which recognises schools for their commitment to providing high-quality sporting opportunities and fostering participation, competition and leadership both within school and across the wider community.
The Platinum Mark is the highest accolade available and reflects Cowes Enterprise College’s continued commitment to promoting physical activity, competitive sport and student leadership opportunities.
Throughout the academic year, students have enjoyed success across a wide range of sports, including football, netball, rugby, badminton, athletics and basketball. The College has also expanded its sporting offer through the introduction of inter-crew pickleball and archery competitions, providing even more opportunities for students to get involved and represent their crew.
The award also recognises the significant contribution made by student sports leaders, captains, officials and volunteers, who have played a vital role in organising and supporting competitions throughout the year.
Vice Principal Vicky Wells said:
“Achieving the Platinum School Games Mark is a tremendous accomplishment and one that reflects the enthusiasm, commitment and sporting spirit of our students. We are incredibly proud to be the first secondary school on the Isle of Wight to receive this award. It recognises not only our success in competition, but also the inclusive sporting culture we have built, where students are encouraged to participate, lead and challenge themselves. This achievement belongs to our students, staff and wider school community, all of whom have contributed to making sport such a vibrant part of life at Cowes Enterprise College.”
As part of the application process, schools are assessed across four key areas: participation, competition, workforce and clubs. Cowes Enterprise College successfully demonstrated excellence in each area, highlighting the breadth of opportunities available to students and the dedication of staff in supporting them.
The academy would like to extend special thanks to the PE Department, Enrichment Lead, Sports Leaders, Sports Captains and the many students who have attended clubs, represented the College and embraced the wide range of sporting opportunities on offer.
This latest achievement further reflects Cowes Enterprise College’s commitment to developing confident, healthy and ambitious young people through sport, leadership and enrichment opportunities.
The academy looks forward to building on this success and applying for the award again in 2027.
