Cowes students secure places at leading universities to study medicine

We are delighted to be celebrating the achievements of our sixth form students following another successful A-level Results Day at Cowes Enterprise College.

This year has brought particular success for students hoping to pursue careers in medicine, with 80% of our students who applied to study medicine securing places at leading universities across the country, including the University of Cambridge.

Medicine remains one of the most competitive university courses in the UK, with around one in five applicants nationally securing a place. The success of our students reflects their hard work and determination, alongside the specialist support available through our Sixth Form – which we have become known for in recent years on the island. For the past several years, we have supported students to successfully progress into medicine through our AspireMed programme – providing specialist support throughout the application process, including preparation for medical entrance exams and university interviews.

One of our recent successful students who has gone on to secure a place to study Medicine at The University of Cambridge is Chloe, who received four offers from other medical schools. Reflecting on her experience, Chloe said:

“I am so grateful for the expert medical support given by the AspireMed team at Cowes.”

Chloe follows in the footsteps of former student Rusen, continuing the sixth form’s strong record of supporting students to secure places to study Medicine at Oxbridge. Other students securing places on Medicine courses this year have included Jess, Zach and Sonia, who will continue their studies at medical schools across the country.

Sara Cody, Deputy Director of Sixth Form commented:

“We have multiple students studying medicine at Cambridge, Imperial and UCL, as well as other medical schools nationally. We believe Island students should be able to achieve top careers at top universities, and we focus our expertise on helping them to give something back to the Island’s healthcare system.”

The success builds on a growing network of our Cowes sixth form alumni who have progressed into medicine, with many now working as doctors and sharing a commitment to improving healthcare on the Isle of Wight.

David Sanchez-Brown, Head of Sixth Form, added:

“Record numbers of students this year are off to study medicine. We are incredibly excited for them and for what their success could mean for the future of the NHS on the Island.”

We are incredibly proud of all our sixth form students and what they have achieved. Their results are a testament to the hard work and commitment they have shown throughout their time at Cowes Enterprise College, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next.

For those still looking for a further education pathway for them this September, our applications to join our sixth form are open – and we welcome applications from anyone looking to go beyond their potential and achieve. For more information visit: cowesec.org/sixth-form/join-us
