Students attend Duke of Edinburgh 70th Anniversary Camp

Recently, 13 Cowes Enterprise College students took part in the 70th Anniversary Camp for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, organised by the Isle of Wight Duke of Edinburgh Charitable Association.

The camp began with an orienteering activity at Parkhurst Forest before the group travelled to Corfe, where students pitched their tents and set up their campsite. Climbing proved to be a particular favourite on the first day, alongside a range of camp craft activities, during which students created their own 70th anniversary mementos.

The evening continued with a barbecue and campfire, complete with toasted marshmallows and chocolate orange brownies.

Sunday offered another packed programme of activities, including archery, canoeing, first aid, tomahawk throwing, orienteering and challenges on the traverse wall. These activities provided students with opportunities to develop their teamwork, resilience and practical outdoor skills while enjoying the experience with fellow D of E participants.

The weekend concluded with a special visit from the Lord-Lieutenant. As part of the camp, Rose presented her with an anniversary plaque that she had designed and created during the camp craft session.

All 13 students who attended are now enrolled on the Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, following the successful completion of their Gold expeditions. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and wish them every success as they continue their D of E journeys.
