Over the course of the last four days, a group of 24 students from Cowes Enterprise College demonstrated their resilience and determination as they completed their bronze assessed expedition. Despite facing challenging weather conditions, including wind, rain, and heat, the students persevered and successfully navigated their routes.
The expeditions took place from Compton Farm, with students walking routes from both Shalfleet/Yarmouth and Carisbrook. Throughout the journey, the students showcased their competence as walkers and utilised their navigational skills to meet checkpoints and stay on track, even in the face of some route deviations.
Students also had the opportunity to work on various team goals. These included creating scrapbooks to document their journey and experiences, designing and playing games using only the equipment from their kits, and engaging in recreational activities such as football and boomerang at the campsite.
Sustaining themselves during the expedition was another essential aspect for the students. They prepared and enjoyed a range of meals, including pasta, different meats, noodles, and a generous amount of hot chocolate and trail snacks to keep their energy levels up.
Despite the weather presenting additional challenges, the students’ determination and perseverance allowed them to complete their expeditions successfully. The experience has not only enhanced their outdoor skills but has also instilled a sense of confidence and accomplishment within each participant.
Principal Rachel Kitley commended the students for their resilience and determination:
“The bronze assessed expedition was a valuable learning experience for our students. They demonstrated great navigational skills, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to challenging weather conditions. We are all proud of their achievements and the growth they have shown throughout this expedition.”
Cowes Enterprise College is committed to providing opportunities for students to develop their character, resilience, and teamwork through challenging outdoor activities.
