In the case of inclement weather, any decision to close the academy will be taken as early as possible. The principal will consult with our site team 6.30am and make a decision about whether to open the academy. Our priority is always the safety of our students and staff. Each academy closure will be logged daily after reassessment of site conditions and surrounding areas and the supervision of students.
Emergency closures outside of the school day (e.g. inclement weather closures)
Once a decision has been made to close the academy the following actions will take place. A text alert will be sent to parents/carers via the number we have on the system for you. Please be aware that this may not be reliable at times of high demand on mobile network as demand may be greater. The closure will be published on our main academy website as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages.
As well as the above the closure will be announced and broadcast by local media organisations such as the Isle of Wight County Press, Isle of Wight Radio and Island Echo. It will also be published on the Isle of Wight Council’s website.
Please do not telephone the school as we will need to keep the telephone lines clear.
Emergency closures within the school day
If the academy has to be closed during the school day, we will contact parents/carers as soon as possible to inform them of the closure. This will take place through text alerts as well as notices on our website and social media. Local media organisations will also publish this information.
Decisions to close the academy
When considering school closures our main priority is always the safety of our students and staff. Please be mindful that all schools are different and can be affected by situations in different ways, including depending on whether students can travel to school by bus and travel conditions for staff.
It is important that we have the correct contact details for you on our system, so you can be kept up to date in such situations. To update your contact details with us please email the academy on [email protected].
