Year 7 Students Set Sights on Distant Shores for RNLI

Many thanks to Gail Willows for sharing this news.

Taylor Willows and Samuel Leather, both in Year 7 at Cowes Enterprise College, challenged themselves to sail across the Solent in the freezing cold conditions today.  They wanted to fundraise for the RNLI.

Taylor Willows said: “The RNLI are an amazing charity that rescue people when they are in trouble at sea, we wanted to raise £1000 for them.”

Both boys are members of Gurnard sailing club, and they sailed from Gurnard beach to Leap and back in their small, single handed dinghies.

Taylor said “The breeze was quite windy so we went with our small sails, we did it in under 3 hours”.

Aptly titled the “Freezing Solent challenge” Taylor and Samuel would welcome donations from the Isle of Wight community to help them reach their £1000 target.

Samuel said “It was brilliant fun, a bit cold! I can’t wait to see how much we can raise.”
