CEC Regional Winners of OAT STEMFest 2021

Cowes Enterprise College are incredibly proud of year 8 students Katherine and Riley who have been announced as the regional winners of OAT STEMFest 2021!

STEMFest is a virtual competition between all of the academies in the Ormiston Acadmies Trust (OAT) family based in STEM – science, technology, engineering and maths. The competition provides pupils with the opportunity to develop skills in many areas such as communication, analytical thinking and teamwork.

The theme for this year was ‘social action’ and finding solutions to problems that affect society.

Supported by science teacher Miss Padden and Head of Design Technology Mr Green, Katherine and Riley submitted a social action project, based on ‘it’s time to stop bullying’. This was linked in with the work the Cowes Enterprise College anti-bullying ambassadors undertake in the academy.

Katherine and Riley developed the project with submission of a short film to launch it, having written a script and starring themselves in the film, which unpicked what bullying is from a young person’s perspective, and presenting some solutions.

After their amazing achievement in the regional heats we wish Katherine and Riley the best of luck for the national finals of OAT STEMFest in May.
