Staff and students at Cowes Enterprise College are celebrating commendations received at the Isle of Wight Amateur Theatre Awards for their production of “Treasure Island.” The awards, acknowledging outstanding achievements in youth productions, recognised the academy’s production with a Commendation for Theatrical Moment.

Judges from the Isle of Wight Amateur Theatre Awards attended performances across the island between September 2022 and August 2023 and Cowes Enterprise College were delighted to welcome the judges to a performance of “Treasure Island” in December 2022.

Led by a group of immensely talented students and supported by dedicated staff, Cowes Enterprise College performed Bryony Lavery’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel. The adaptation brought to life the thrilling tale of adventure, transporting audiences on an enthralling journey filled with suspense and excitement

An individual commendation was also granted to former Cowes Enterprise College Sixth Form student, Betsy, for her portrayal of Ben Gunn. Judges praised Betsy’s exceptional interpretation, noting her projection, intonation, and pace and described her portrayal as successfully capturing the complexities of Ben Gunn’s character.

Principal Rachel Kitley shared her pride in the youth theatre’s achievements, saying:
