CEC Students Drive Innovation in British Hydrogen Car Competition

Cowes Enterprise College’s Team Eco Futures and Team Eco Change travelled over 400 miles from the Isle of Wight to Scotland to compete in the British Final of the H2GP Hydrogen-Powered RC Car Endurance Race. Held today at Stirling University campus, the event marks a significant milestone for these dedicated students.

In 2023, students underwent a rigorous selection process and have since been diligently preparing for this challenging competition. The British and Scottish Finals, which took part on Thursday 20th July sought to determine two winners in the four-hour endurance race, who will be advancing to the H2GP World Finals in Anaheim, California, in September.

Both Cowes Enterprise College teams made commendable entries in the British Finals. Team Eco Change impressed with Joe B achieving the second-fastest recorded lap at 15.003 seconds. Despite their strong start and leading the race for 90 minutes, they were forced to retire due to a motor malfunction.

Meanwhile, Team Eco Futures showcased their endurance by completing 221 laps before encountering power management issues that challenged their performance in the four-hour race.

Cowes Enterprise College Principal, Rachel Kitley, said:

“I am thrilled by the exceptional performance of our Eco Futures and Eco Change teams in the British Final of the Hydrogen Grand Prix. Their innovation and teamwork have truly shone, and this experience underscores the importance of fostering real-world skills in our students. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the dedication of our staff in supporting them”

Special thanks to Mr Kirk, Team DT, and Mrs Tanner-Rolf for their unwavering support. Congratulations to both Team Eco Futures and Team Eco Change for their outstanding efforts and achievements.
